Topps Launches $8,000 Victor Wembanyama Collection Box

Topps is making waves in the trading card industry with its latest release, the 2023-24 Topps Mercury Victor Wembanyama collection. Priced at a hefty $8,000 per box, this high-end product is a collector’s dream, filled with exclusive autographs, game-worn jersey pieces, and rare chase cards that will leave enthusiasts clamoring for more.

The centerpiece of this collection is the NBA Rookie of the Year, Victor Wembanyama, whose star power has captivated basketball fans worldwide. Each box contains eight finely crafted cards, including two autographs, jersey relics from Wembanyama’s rookie season, and a selection of highly sought-after chase cards that add an extra level of excitement to the set.

One of the most prized possessions in this collection is a dual autograph card featuring Wembanyama alongside the legendary LeBron James, both of whom have exclusive autograph deals with Fanatics, a testament to their status in the sports world. The set also includes red parallels limited to just five copies and a unique SuperFractor card, adding to the exclusivity and desirability of this collection.

In addition to the autographs, the collection features ten distinctive autograph cards, some of which include personal inscriptions from Wembanyama himself. The game-worn relic cards highlight pivotal moments from his rookie season, such as his NBA debut and the game where he reached the milestone of scoring his 1,000th point, adding a touch of history to the collection.

Last year, Wembanyama’s debut NBA jersey fetched an astonishing $762,000 at auction, setting a high bar for the value of his memorabilia. The inclusion of game-worn relics in this collection further elevates its prestige and appeal to collectors seeking a piece of basketball history.

Aside from the autographs and relic cards, the set also contains 20 base cards showcasing memorable highlights from Wembanyama’s rookie season. To pay homage to his French heritage, the base short prints are printed in French and limited to only 45 copies each. Additionally, a “Specimen” super short print version, limited to just 15 copies, celebrates his unique “Alien” moniker, adding a playful twist to the collection.

The set doesn’t stop there, with ten insert designs that offer collectors a diverse range of options to add to their collection. Standout inserts like “Cote to Coast,” a tribute to the Cote d’Azur, 1971 Topps Chrome, and Wingspan, provide additional excitement for collectors looking for something extra special to cherish.

While Topps has previously released single-athlete sets like the Topps x J-Rod (Julio Rodriguez) set in 2023, the Victor Wembanyama collection will mark its most extensive single-athlete set distribution to date, promising widespread availability and excitement among collectors.

Collectors can get their hands on these coveted boxes through Topps.com and select hobby shops, with an exclusive debut on Fanatics Live a day before the official October 9 release date. The Topps Mercury brand, set to continue beyond Wembanyama, will bring forth future single-athlete products tied to the debut seasons of upcoming sports stars, promising more high-end releases for passionate collectors to enjoy and treasure.
