Goldin Auctions recently hosted their April Elite sale, witnessing a frenzy of bidding for prized memorabilia linked to NBA rising stars Anthony Edwards and Victor Wembanyama. The star-studded event coincided with a thrilling playoff game where Anthony Edwards showcased his skills, likely sparking increased interest in his memorabilia among basketball enthusiasts.

One of the standout items from the auction was an early NBA jersey worn by Anthony Edwards during his fourth career game, which fetched a staggering $118,978. This sale set a new record for the highest price ever paid for an Anthony Edwards jersey in a public auction. The jersey, accompanied by authentication from MeiGray/NBA and photomatching, holds special significance as it was worn by Edwards when he achieved his first career block and contributed 12 points to his impressive record. Edwards’ meteoric rise to stardom was further solidified during the 2024 playoffs, where he joined the elite company of Kobe Bryant as one of the youngest players to score over 40 points in consecutive postseason games.

In addition to the historic jersey sale, an Anthony Edwards 2020-21 Panini National Treasures Rookie Patch Autograph card, graded BGS GEM MINT 9.5 with a Beckett 10 autograph rating, commanded a notable price of $85,550 at the auction, indicating the high demand for collectibles associated with the young basketball sensation.

Victor Wembanyama, another highly sought-after player, also saw significant interest in his memorabilia, particularly his rookie cards. A rare 2023-24 Panini Prizm Green Shimmer First Off The Line rookie card, numbered 1 of 5 and graded PSA 10, sold for an impressive $113,460. Additionally, a coveted Gold Shimmer rookie card, numbered 7 of 10, garnered a noteworthy bid of $49,410, underscoring the soaring value of Wembanyama’s collectibles.

The auction wasn’t solely focused on modern basketball stars, as evidenced by the brisk bidding for iconic sports collectibles. A 1996-97 Kobe Bryant Topps Chrome Refractor rookie card fetched $92,720, while a 2018 Panini Prizm World Cup Gold Power Prizm Kylian Mbappe rookie card, graded BGS MINT 9, commanded $92,190.

Not to be overshadowed, former Duke standout Cherokee Parks’ NCAA Championship ring garnered significant attention, ultimately selling for $44,320. The auction further showcased the enduring appeal of sports memorabilia with photographs capturing pivotal moments in the early careers of legends like Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, fetching $15,982 and $14,640 respectively.

Among the diverse array of items up for bidding was a jersey from Fernando Tatis Jr.’s early MLB games, specifically his first career road game, which fetched $10,098. The auction’s broad selection of memorabilia highlights the widespread interest in sports collectibles that transcend generations and sports disciplines, painting a vibrant picture of the thriving market for sports nostalgia.
