Clean Sweep Auctions has kicked off the year 2024 with a bang, presenting an exquisite selection of pre-War baseball cards and memorabilia that are attracting the attention of collectors and enthusiasts alike. Of particular note are two highly sought-after T206 cards, along with an array of Hall of Famers and other rare gems that have been carefully curated for this monumental event.

Leading the pack is a T206 Ray Demmitt card, which has been graded SGC 2, and a Bill O’Hara card earning an SGC 1.5 grade. Both cards are from the celebrated “monster” set and are the epitome of rarity and desirability among vintage baseball card collectors.

Among the star-studded lineup, an exceptional Ty Cobb card steals the show. This particular card features Cobb with a legendary ‘bat on shoulder’ pose and boasts a Sovereign 350 back, garnering a PSA 3 grading. Equally remarkable is the SGC graded Cy Young portrait card, keeping esteemed company among the noteworthy listings.

A rare and captivating highlight in this auction is a set of four M110 Sporting Life Cabinet cards from 1911, showcasing baseball legends Honus Wagner, Frank Chance, Nap Lajoie, and Christy Mathewson. These cards are highly prized due to their scarcity, being among the limited surviving examples from Sporting Life’s early venture into card production over a century ago.

The auction continues to astound with significant cards such as the SGC 5 graded 1887 Allen & Ginter Mike “King” Kelly card, the 1907 Dietsche Ty Cobb postcard (with name on the front variation) graded SGC 1, and the esteemed 1908 Rose Postcard featuring Hall of Famer Addie Joss. Additionally, a collection of 1911 Turkey Red Cabinets steals the spotlight with cards of Walter Johnson, Eddie Collins, Home Run Baker, Rube Waddell, and Addie Joss.

Stepping into more recent history, the auction boasts key players like the 1921 Exhibit Babe Ruth card graded PSA 2, a 1928 Harrington’s Ice Cream Ruth card with an SGC 1.5 grade, and the 1933 George C. Miller Dizzy Dean card graded SGC 3. A pair of 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig cards (graded PSA 2 and SGC 3.5 respectively) add to the allure, alongside the 1933 Goudey 149 Ruth card rated SGC 5. Also on offer is a 1939 Play Ball Ted Williams rookie card with an SGC 3 grade and the 1948-49 Leaf Jackie Robinson RC graded Beckett 2. Adding to the excitement are a PSA 9 graded 1950 Callahan set and rookie cards of Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays from the 1951 Bowman collection. Not to be missed are the 1952 Berk Ross Mantle card graded PSA 3, the 1952 Bowman Mantle card with a PSA 5 grade, the 1954 Johnson Cookies Aaron RC graded PSA 7, and the 1958 Hires Root Beer Willie Mays card with a tab, also graded PSA 7.

Complete sets make a grand appearance, including the 1957 and 1967 Topps sets, the latter featuring a collection of 90 graded cards.

Adding a dash of autographed splendor, the auction offers an autographed 1953 Bowman Color Mickey Mantle card, a PSA 8 graded Jackie Robinson signed Hall of Fame postcard, and a 1931 Yankees team signed baseball, truly treasures for any collector.

For fans of unopened material, the auction unveils a 1988 Fleer basketball wax box and a 1986 Topps football rack box, serving as a portal to the past.

Notably featured at the beginning of the event is a 1939 Joe Cronin Boston Red Sox road flannel jersey, rated an impressive 9 by MEARS, a stunning find fresh to the hobby.

Other intriguing items make their appearance, including Chicago Cubs signed team sets dating back to the 1950s, thirteen different Derek Jeter autographed cards (most signed before his MLB debut in the mid-1990s), and a Lou Gehrig autograph.

Basketball enthusiasts will relish the presence of two Bird/Magic rookies and two Michael Jordan rookies, while football aficionados will find vintage sets, Tom Brady rookie cards, and a ticket from the iconic 1958 “greatest game” between the Colts and the Giants.

Closing out the auction is an array of baseball memorabilia, featuring 19th-century Chicago Cubs home scorecards, a 1906 Red Sox scorecard, a 1920 Who’s Who with Babe Ruth on the cover, numerous World Series items, a 1912 tabletop baseball game, an original telephone from Ebbets Field, tickets, pennants, and a high-grade set of Hartland statues.
